Mayor’s Briefing – January/February Update 2025

January has come and gone, and as the groundhog predicted, we are in for six more weeks of winter—but only six! This past month brought significant snowfall, much of it on weekends. Our Town Manager and crew have responded swiftly and efficiently to each snow event, ensuring our roads remain safe and accessible.

A special thank you to residents for your cooperation in keeping garbage bins off the streets on Sundays when plowing is scheduled. The town provides notifications via Facebook, and your attention to these updates is greatly appreciated.

Winter Safety Reminder
When the town crew is clearing snow from the center of the streets or using the skid steer for plowing, please exercise extreme caution. Visibility from these machines is limited. As a safety measure, always establish eye contact with the operator and wait for acknowledgment before passing behind the equipment.

Council Updates
Last week, our Council participated in training led by Matthewson & Co., alongside council members from Marshal and Maidstone. The session was well received and particularly beneficial for those new to their roles. Topics covered included the “Roles and Responsibilities of Council” as per legislation and “Must-Have Municipal Policies.” This training highlighted key areas that may require review or updates moving forward.

Council remains focused on addressing unfinished business and planning for the future. We are currently working on asset management strategies, five-year capital budget reviews, and exploring economic development opportunities.

Thank you for your continued support and engagement. Stay safe and warm as we move through the rest of winter

Jim Krissa
